Dental bonding is gaining in popularity due largely to patients wanting a more conservative treatment to correct simple flaws with their teeth. Treatments such as porcelain veneers are a great way to make dramatic changes for teeth that have severe damage, discoloration, or wear. What about smaller chips and gaps?

Dental bonding adds to your existing tooth structure with minimal preparation to the surface of your teeth. What this means for patients is that they can maintain their healthy tooth structure and still alter the appearance of their teeth with highly esthetic composite material.

Composite looks natural because it is made of a combination of colored plastic and microscopic glass particles. It has a natural sheen that blends in with your teeth and creates a surface that the dentist can polish to a brilliant shine.

Dental bonding works well for a number of cosmetic concerns such as:

  • Chips
  • Gaps
  • Irregularly shaped teeth
  • Slight discoloration
  • Small repairs or reshaping

One of our patients’ favorite aspects of cosmetic dental bonding is that it can often be completed in one appointment without the need for an outside lab or waiting to get a final restoration.

To determine if you are a good candidate for dental bonding, we will first invite you to our Springfield dental office to examine the health of your gums, teeth, and to go over your concerns. Dental bonding will not work for all cosmetic situations, but it provides a simple, affordable solution for many of our patients.

If you have a clenching and grinding habit, we may recommend a night guard. Just as your natural teeth can become damaged by a teeth grinding habit, you can also damage your dental bonding.
